5 easy tips to write your business blog today

#

Do you have a blog for your business? Perhaps it’s on your list of 2022 objectives or still cowering at the bottom of your to-do list. Recent research shows that 91% of business-to-business companies use a business blog and 86% of businesses to consumer say the same. But, if you’re still not convinced or have no idea how to write your business blog, here’s my five quick tips to get started and use blogs as a form of marketing to grow your business.

What about SEO?

If you’ve heard of SEO (search engine optimisation), you’ll know it’s important to factor it into your online content to show up in more searches. However, it can be a little intimidating to approach blog writing with the pressure of nailing SEO at the same time. So, in this blog, I won’t focus on SEO (but if you need further information and expert advice, I’d suggest Heike at VA Web Design & SEO).

1.     First things first – your blog objective

As much as you could just start writing and let the creativity flow, step back and consider the objective of your blog post. It needs to be original, useful and at the same time show off your knowledge and personality. So, for example, you might want to:

  • Answer a question your potential client might have (your blog needs to help them with something, so solve their problem!).
  • Write a post that educates them.
  • Tell your audience about your business, how you started, what you offer and why you’re different.
  • Focus on a specific service or product you offer and why they should invest.

2.     Write a plan for your business blog

Not everyone is a planner, but it helps when you write your business blog. First, note what you want to include in the blog and key points, thoughts etc. Then, you can structure it around your notes to stay on track and ensure you cover all the important areas.

3.     Nail your headline

It isn’t easy, but consider some of the headlines you see online and what makes you click on them to find out more (how do they pique curiosity?). I’ve added lots of content about headlines on Instagram recently. So, if you need more information, have a look.

Again, consider what the purpose of your blog is. Are you educating your readers on your product/service/business, or are you aiming for a unique headline that readers just can’t resist clicking on? For example, do you want to write a ‘How To’ piece to help them solve a problem? Or perhaps you have a special offer, and you want them to buy it now, so write a headline that provokes urgency.

4.     Break up the text

Use subheadings to break up chunks of text and make your content easily scannable. We’re all in a rush at times, so readers may be put off with huge paragraphs and no white space. Make your paragraphs short and snappy and try and limit them to about three sentences.

5.     Add a call to action

While it’s great to finish your blog and step back while others read it, you need a call to action so that potential customers do more than just read your blog. So, add a call to action. For example, it might be a link to your website for further information or social media links or draw their attention to a special offer and how they can access it or contact you.

This is just a quick list of some of my tips to help you start to write your business blog, but there are other things you can do to make your blog stand out and appeal to potential clients.
