Spring is in the air

#

Can you feel it? The trembling earth fit to burst with new life? Heaven knows we need it… from the miserable, grey, damp and depressing days of early 2022, as the news pushed us further into that soggy, sad place we have all inhabited, emerges something new. A tingling sense that there may be better days ahead. Spring offers so much in the way of hope.

Our days of hunkering and feeding and snuggling and hiding are coming to an end. Can you remember what it was like to step out of the front door coatless, toes wriggling in the fresh air, fumbling for your sunglasses? OK, so we may not be in full throws of summer yet, and there will be cool, grey days ahead, but there’s an echo there that we thought we’d lost. Longer days, fresher scents, simpler journeys where we are less burdened with coats, hats, jumpers, umbrellas, bags and mud!

We can dare to think that we will be offered a reprieve by Mother Nature herself. Just at the point where we questioned if we really could go on, those daffodils sprung up from nowhere ‘fluttering and dancing in the breeze’, the warm sun on our faces fills us with the energy we so desperately need to forge forward and have a go at life again. If, like me, you are fortunate enough to live in the glorious Surrey Hills, this is the most invigorating time of year. The hills are greening, trails widening, mud abating. Blossom peeks through, and the magnolias are ready to burst out, buxom and bold. Bird song is back, and it won’t be long before the swifts are wheeling around our skies, screaming out their unrivalled cries of freedom.

Getting outside is the most wonderful medicine. Get your heart pumping, your lungs full and breathe in the goodness that nature has to offer. Lowering your blood pressure, improving mental clarity, creating headspace and offering a sense of perspective that modern life often steals from us. Walk alone or with friends, sit and stare into space on a bench, take a flask and enjoy the old-school pleasures of a cuppa and a cheese sarnie. Fresh air really is good for your mind and body in so may ways, and at this time of year there are fewer quick fixes than a 20 minute walk in the glorious Spring sunshine.

If you can dedicate more time, then plan a full days walking, we have a wealth of trails in this area with hidden gems around every bend. A pub lunch and an amble home is a treat few can refuse, and there are so many great options on our doorstep. If time is tight for you, then taking ten minutes between meetings to wander round the garden or stick your head out of a window really is better than nothing. If you can’t factor ten minutes into your day to take some deep breaths of Spring air then you really do need to review your priorities, it is essential you give yourself time to breathe and reset on a regular basis.

Spring is a perfect time to dust off some of those ideas and commitments you shelved in the darker days of winter, so if you are ready to move forward and need a trusted guide to support that effort, please do get in touch and book in a free consultation with me.
